(4) Bye com. Sci. 1

This might be my last blog post for the academic year.

Our last lesson in Com. Sci was about installing an OS. An operating system is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system.

During our last discussion, I felt nostalgic. I will really miss the super easy lessons. I bet i'll really miss this when we reach a higher level. I will miss the jokes we say to the class. Never gets old. Also, I'll really miss Sir. His humor and how he puts clues to test (haha).

Well, time goes really fast. I can already smell summer and in less than three months, we'll be going to be ate's and kuya's already.

So I'm going to cherish my remaining time being a grade 7 and the "easy" lessons and tasks.

(4) Trouble, Trouble, Trouble

It was a regular Monday. We all entered the cold Computer Science lab. Then sir discussed about troubleshooting, what the beeps mean and what to check before punching you computer for malfunctioning.

After the discussion, we had an activity where we applied the things we learned in the discussion. We connected wires to the CPU. It was easy since each wire has a corresponding color on the CPU and some had labels.

After successfully fixed my computer, I sent a message to Sir in Moodle telling that I have done the activity.

#TomAndJenny Hahaha
Last na talaga 'to sir. Hahaha

(4) System

A computer system is the one that can take a set of inputs, process them and create a set of outputs using the hardware and the software.

There are 3 types of hardware. the input/ output devices, CPU and the memory. There are 2 types of softwares. The OS/ Operating System and the applications.

There are many types of computers. Each with different kind of system.
The digital computer operates on data, including magnitudes, letters, and symbols, that are expressed in binary form . For example, the computers we use today. The analog computer is a computer that represents data by measurable quantities, as voltages or, formerly, the rotation of gears,in order to solve a problem, rather than by expressing the data as numbers. An example is an analog wall clock. The hybrid computer is a combination of digital and analog computer just like in aircrafts.

(4) Interconnected

computer network or data network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data. In computer networks, networked computing devices pass data to each other along data connections. The internet that we are using today is a large network of networks.

Each device has an IP address. As we discussed during the second quarter, aInternet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. An IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing.

Data travels back and forth in a network. It is transferred physically through a communication channel or medium such as copper wires, optical fibers, wireless channel and storage devices. They are represented as electromagnetic signals such as an electrical voltage, radio wave, microwave or infrared signal.Data is divided into small pieces called packets for easy transfer.

Transferring data from a network to another network is called internet exchange. Internet can be faster through peering.

(4) The Sarah Geronimo Song

Cycles are natural occurrences in the universe. History repeats in cycles. Inside a human are lots of cycles. In the ecosystem, there are cycles. Even computers have cycles.

The computer cycle is also called processor cycle or instruction cycle. It is the basic processes of the CPU or the central processing unit of a computer. It is consisted of three steps. These are: 1. Fetch 2. Decode and 3. execute.

Each step is executed in a particular place.

(4) Luck

I have a weird habit in Com. Sci. Whenever there is a test, I always cram in studying because whenever I study in advance, I get a low score.

So that's what I did in the first long test.

It was a cold Monday afternoon. Sir Reg didn't attend our music class, which was before Com. Sci. period so we left early and went to aca. 2. While waiting for our class, me, Wanda and GB reviewed for the LT. I got a really, really, REALLY low score in the quiz about the conversion thingy so I focused on that topic. To help us remember twhat to do, me and Wanda made up  a song:

Bin to Deci, add, add, add!
Deci to Bin, divide, divide, divide!
Hex to Deci, multiply, multiply, multiply!

It sounded like a children's song but it helped me during the test.

I was one of the last persons to finish. When I saw that Steph was the only one with me, I quickly submitted my answers with my fingers crossed then BOOM.

WHY DID I CHANGE THAT TO REGISTER?!?! MICROWAVE? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?! 1 PLUS 2 IS EQUAL TO 2?! AND THAT 0!?! URGHH.

Because of my unhappiness, I quickly logged out of my computer.

Before leaving the lab., I asked Sir who got the highest score. I found out that me and Milan got the second highest scores.

(4) Generations of Computers

Like any digital device, computers also develop as time passes by. From being very large vacuum tubes they were upgraded into much efficient computers.

The first generation is the vacuum tubes which were very huge in size and could take up a large room. It uses machine language which only uses the numbers 1 and 0. Only people who can understand this language can operate the computers. They compute in milliseconds.

The second generation is the transistors which were smaller than the previous generation but still very big. They used a concept called stored program and uses assemble technology. They compute in microseconds.

The third generation is the integrated circuits which had multiple transistors are place on a silicon chip. In this generation, the keyboard and the monitor were finally used to interact. It used high-level languages. During this time, the computer became available to the mass audience.

The fourth generation is the microprocessors which uses the large scale integration and the very large scale integration and the very large scale integration. This generation are like the computers we are using today.

The fifth generation is the artificial intelligence. It is capable of learning and self-organization just like how humans think. They use SUPER large scale integrator. An example of this computer is Watson which can be as the same level of humans.

(4) MOTHERboard, FATHERboard, Gentleman

Learning the parts the how to assemble the motherboard was one of the coolest things I learned this quarter. I realized that it's not that complicated at all.

To see if we understood about this topic, we had a practical test where we were asked to assemble and disassemble the motherboard.

I was in the third group with Wanda, Carlo, Xavier and Gaps. Awesomeee.

So I put the RAM, connected things and removed the jumper. Good thing, Carlo was there to tell us when to put thing in their appropriate places.

We ended up having a perfect score! Woohoo

(4) LAPTOP

What are hardware specs?
Hardware specs dictate limits and maximum capability of a hardware/ device depending on a given criteria / unit of measurement. It varies depending on what an individual user will be doing with it.

So which is better, laptop or desktop?
Although there are some things that can be upgraded/replaced in a laptop, it is just not as easy to keep up-to-date and in good repair as a desktop machine. If you're looking for top-of-the-line speed and have the cash to spend, a desktop is the way you'll want to go. But when  it come to portability, obviously, laptop wins. Would you rather bring a handy computer than bring a very heavy computer with almost the same purpose of the smaller?

Alam mo yung laptop? Diba yun yung chocolate? LAPTOP
